SouthField HonorsGrowth District Designation Governor Deval Patrick has designated SouthField a municipal “Growth District” as part of the state’s initiative to expedite commercial and residential development in an area. By focusing resources to make SouthField “shovel-ready”, the Executive Office of Housing and Economic Development has partnered with the development to create conditions for business growth and community revitalization for years to come. The Governor’s Growth Districts Initiative offers a focused approach to work with the community, making sure that all required permits are secured, site preparation is completed, infrastructure improvements are identified, and marketing resources are made available. Parkway to Route 3 Assistance The Patrick-Murray Administration has committed $42.5 million in state assistance to construct a new east-west parkway through SouthField to connect it to Route 3. Spurring significant economic development in the region, the 4-lane road will connect Route 18 in South Weymouth to Route 3 at Exit 14 in Rockland. The state’s investment will make it possible to complete the Parkway by the end of 2010. Smart Growth Award: The Massachusetts’ Office for Commonwealth Development (OCD) The OCD named LNR Property Corporation, the South Shore Tri-Town Development Corporation, and the towns of Weymouth, Abington, and Rockland as recipients of a Smart Growth award for SouthField, a model for environmentally-sensitive, master planned mixed use communities. Nicholas Humber Environmental Award LNR Property Corporation and The South Shore Tri-Town Development Corp. (SSTTDC) received the prestigious Nicholas Humber Environmental Award for Outstanding Collaboration presented by the Environmental Business Council of New England. The award was given in recognition of outstanding collaboration among the municipalities of Weymouth, Abington and Rockland, along with government agencies and LNR in the redevelopment of SouthField.
